Soldiers from Brunei to arrive in NZ

8:04 pm on 6 April 2014

More than 160 soldiers from Brunei will be in New Zealand over the next month for live-firing exercises.

Soldiers of the First Royal Gurkha Regiment have begun arriving in Christchurch for Exercise Pacific Kukri, which the New Zealand Army hosts every two years.

Brigade Commander, Colonel Nick Gillard, says the training area in Tekapo provides different conditions, terrain and challenges which aren't available in Brunei.

He says the exercise builds defence relations between Britain, which the Gurkha Regiment falls under, and New Zealand.
