A man sought by police last week in connection with an kidnapping and assault is under arrest again.
Brett Makiri, 23, is charged with escaping from custody on Wednesday during an interview about the kidnapping on Monday.
He also faces a charge of kidnapping, injuring with intent and stealing a vehicle.
He will appear in Auckland District Court on Saturday after being arrested in Papatoetoe just before midnight. Police said he had shaved his head to try and disguise himself.
Police said they visited more than 20 addresses in the search.
