A truck that caught fire on State Highway 1 about 11 kilometres south of Taupo has caused the road's closure until 4.30pm.
Diesel fuel is on the road.
State Highway 1 is presently closed to traffic from Taupo airport all the way down to Turangi.
Motorists are advised to use State Highway 32 and State Highway 41 to get around it.
