The water supply for the town of Raetihi was contaminated after 19,000 litres of diesel went into the Makotuku Stream.

Petroleum Services Limited was sentenced under the Health and Safety in Employment Act in the Taihape District Court today.

The company designed and installed a fuel tank and delivery system on the skifield but failed to comply with a number of approved industry standards.

The ski field operator Ruapehu Alpine Lifts was convicted last year for its part in the spill and fined $300,000.
