Four people will appear in court today after a Hawke's Bay dairy was robbed yesterday afternoon.

Police said three of the robbers threatened a shop owner in the Napier suburb of Westshore with a knife, demanding money and tobacco products.

They fled to a car where a fourth person was waiting.

An observant member of the public saw them running to the car and took note of the registration number, police said.

Officers stopped the vehicle on State Highway 50, and three men and a woman were arrested.
