The police have confirmed all three people killed when a car they were travelling in rolled in Leeston, Canterbury in the early hours of Boxing Day were 15 years old.

They were Samuel James Drost, Cole Troy Hull and Lily Frances Moore.

Two 14-year-old boys were injured and taken to Christchurch Hospital and one has been discharged.

Another was in a serious condition, but Canterbury District Health Board said it would not release details of his condition for privacy reasons.

He was reportedly the driver of the vehicle.

Lily Moore was a student at Rangi Ruru Girls' School in Christchurch.

School principal Sandra Hastie said the school had learned of Lily's death with "immense sadness".

"Our heartfelt condolences go to Lily's family and friends... We of course have reached out to the grieving family so they know we are here for them."

The car rolled near the corner of Harts Road and Southbridge Sedgemere Road, police said.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
