A teenager is due in court today charged with the attempted sexual violation of a woman at a Gisborne campground early on New Year's Day.

The 16-year-old, who is also charged with burglary and injuring with intent, will appear in the Gisborne District Court.
The 24-year-old woman was asleep when she was attacked in her tent at the Showgrounds Park Motor Camp at Makaraka shortly after midnight.
She fought back and her screams alerted other campers, who chased the offender before he fled in an SUV.
