About 150 people blocked entry to the conference in November 2015, and protestors organised by Peace Action Wellington labelled the meeting "the business of war".

The trial was expected to last two weeks.

Most of the defendants were being represented by lawyers, but two of them - Valerie Morse and Gregory Wayne Elliot - will be representing themselves.

About 30 people filled the public gallery in one of the District Court rooms before a decision was soon made to move everyone to a bigger room.
