Firefighters contain Otago blaze

Firefighters have contained a large scrub fire in the Central Otago town of Alexandra.

Emergency services were called to the blaze, in a gully near Aronui Road, just before 3pm.

They said there was no further risk to property.

However, some officers would stay to hose down any hot spots.

Investigators were working to determine the cause, but it was not considered suspicious and was not linked to fireworks.

Five crews from Alexandra, Clyde, Omakau, and rural fire staff had attended the blaze.
