The driver of a car that hit and killed three cyclists near Morrinsville has pleaded guilty in the Morrinsville District Court.

Kristy King, 23, admitted to three charges of careless driving causing death.

Her car collided with a group of cyclists near Morrinsville on the morning of 14 November.

Two cyclists died at the scene and a third died later in hospital.

King made her plea on her first appearance after being charged and expressed her remorse when she appeared again on Wednesday.

Her lawyer read a statement in court on her behalf. It said how devastated and sorry she was and that she took full responsibility for what happened.

King's statement went on to say how she hated herself and that she did not think she would ever drive again.

She also said she wanted to meet with the families, but would understand if they did not want to.

Roger Wolfe, whose wife Kay died in hospital four days after the crash, accepts that King is remorseful and says her statement was very touching.

Mr Wolfe says he does not hate King and hopes she can get back on with her life.

King has been convicted and remanded on bail for sentencing on 14 February.
