An experienced diver from Russia has died while on a guided trip in the Marlborough Sounds.
The 58-year-old woman was part of a group of about a dozen people exploring a sunken Russian cruise ship in Port Gore on Thursday.
The woman entered the water, but returned to the boat shortly afterwards for unknown reasons, and died on board, police say.
The matter will be referred to the Coroner, with a post-mortem expected to be carried out on Monday.
Police say the woman was a member of a dive club.
