The Coromandel's famous Cathedral Cove arch is crumbling again, prompting warnings it is becoming more dangerous.

There have been signs telling people not to walk through the large natural archway that links two beaches since a major rockfall 18 months ago.

Department of Conservation conservation support manager Rachel Kelleher says there have been several falls in the past few months, the latest last week.

Ms Kelleher says until the recent spate, there had been no rockfalls for several years.

The department is having to look again at the risk both to people and the stability of the arch.
