A women's magazine has flown the daughter and sister of former high ranking public servant, Sharon Armstrong, to the Argentinian prison where she is being held.

Ms Armstrong was arrested on 13 April in Buenos Aires while boarding a plane to London, with 5kg of cocaine in a suitcase, but says she was asked to collect the suitcase by a man she met online.

Her foster mother, Jean Ruakere, says Ms Armstrong's daughter Ariana and her sister, Leanne, have been able to spend five hours a day with her for the past week and are now on their way home to Brisbane.

Mrs Ruakere says Ms Armstrong needs to raise $51,000 to pay for a lawyer.

Ms Ruakere says she hopes to speak with Prime Minister John Key about the issue at a function in New Plymouth this week.
