Two men have appeared in the Blenheim District Court charged over the killing of seals on the Kaikoura coast late last year.
The two, aged 35 and 19, have been charged with wilfully ill-treating seals at the Ohau Point colony by clubbing them to death.
They've also been charged with possession of an offensive weapon.
Twenty-five seals were killed in last December's attacks, including eight new-born pups.
No pleas were entered when the two accused men, both from Marlborough, appeared on Monday morning.
They were remanded on bail to appear in court again on 18 July.
