Rugby World Cup venue 'the Cloud' opens

10:46 am on 3 September 2011

The Rugby World Cup building known as 'The Cloud' has been officially opened in Auckland but it will be a week before the public can visit.

The temporary plastic building on Queens Wharf with a rippling white roof will be part of "Party Central" during the tournament, and will be used to house New Zealand industry exhibits and host official functions.

Rugby officials, business leaders and politicians attended the opening on Friday.

The public will be able to see it close up after an opening ceremony party next week.

The Rugby World Cup runs from 9 September to 23 October.
