Police have completed their examination of the campsite in Turangi where a five-year-old girl was attacked on Wednesday night.
The girl, who was on holiday with her family from Europe, was the victim of a what police say was a sexually motivated assault while she slept in a caravan at Club Habitat campground in the town.
She suffered severe facial injuries but is reported to be improving after surgery at Waikato Hospital.
Police say everything possible is being done to find the girl's attacker, and they are still keen to hear from anyone who hasn't yet made contact.
The family's rented ute and caravan are being returned to the owners now the scene examination is complete.
