More supervision of children urged at pools

Water Safety New Zealand says drownings of pre-schoolers would be drastically reduced if all home pools were fenced and young children properly supervised.

So far this year, 14 pre-schoolers have drowned.

Water Safety NZ says large gatherings create diffuse responsibility.

Chief executive Matt Claridge says a large number of people in one place gives them all the feeling the children are safe, but no-one specific is looking after them.
