Tegel frozen chicken products recalled

7:05 pm on 27 February 2012

Tegel is recalling six frozen chicken products due to concerns they have not been cooked enough.

The company issued the recall on Monday after calls from two wholesale customers concerned about the degree to which two products had been pre-cooked.

Tegel chief executive Andrew Stevens says the products are isolated to one production line and testing to date shows only a very small proportion of the total number of the pre-cooked packets may be affected.

The products are: Chicken Chargrilled Steaks, Chargrill Flame Grilled Chicken Steak, Original Crumbed Chicken Breast Schnitzel, Takeouts Flame Grilled Original Chicken Steaks, Takeouts Flame Grilled Thai Original Chicken Steaks and Takeouts Golden Crumbed Schnitzel.

All have a five digit lot identifier numbers starting with a 2.

Tegel says any of the products purchased since 1 January this year should not be consumed, distributed or sold.

Mr Stevens says there have been no reports of anyone becoming ill from eating the products.
