PNG capital water supply critically low

The Papua New Guinea capital's main water source, the Sirinumu Dam, is at critically low levels and supplies are set to tighten as an el Nino drought looms.

Port Moresby depends on the dam to generate power and provide water and the authorities are warning people to avoid wastage.

The utility company Eda Ranu has reiterated a call for city residents and surrounding communities to start using water wisely.

Large commercial users are also being encourage to conserve water and to consider bore water as an alternative.
