The assurance was made by the Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon, when he addressed journalists who are covering the 3rd UN Conference on Small Island Developing States which is underway in Samoa's capital, Apia.

He says he has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of the peacekeepers and the UN is working around the clock to ensure their early release.
