French Polynesia's territorial assembly is due to meet this morning to elect a new president.
This follows last week's removal of Gaston Flosse from office after the French government decided to serve him last July's court sentence for corruption.
The ruling Tahoeraa Huiraatira has nominated Edouard Fritch for the position.
He is widely expected to be chosen as the Tahoeraa dominates the assembly.
Mr Fritch has been the president of the territorial assembly and is the mayor of Pirae.
A statement issued by the President's Office says Flosse, who has been banned from public office, is scheduled to be at the presidency to formally hando over power after the election procedure in the assembly.
