The South Korean budget airline Jeju Air has inaugurated its Incheon-Saipan service, just in time to make up for Asiana Airlines' week-long suspension in the middle of October.
The low-cost carrier flies a Boeing 737-800 according to Jeju Air CEO Kyu Nam Choi, who was one of the passengers of the maiden flight to the Northern Marianas.
Jeju Air, which initially offers daily flights to Saipan, is a low-cost alternative to other carriers servicing the route as it offers fares 20 to 30 percent lower than its competitors.
Jeju Air already flies to Guam.
Last June, South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transportation ordered the seven-day suspension of Asiana Airlines' Incheon-Saipan route because of a violation of safety regulations by the airline during a flight to Saipan.
The week-long suspension will be from October the 14th.
