4:45 pm on 7 October 2014

American Samoa has received over US$2.1 million for environmental protection work from the US Environmental Protections Agency.

The funding, will go to the American Samoa Environmental Agency, for its monitoring and management of the country's resources.

EPA officer Dean Higuchi says the funding will benefit both residents and visitors to American Samoa.

"The funding is important because it helps to fund their program that actually helps implement federal environmental protection statutes and regulations. It goes to alot of different things like environmental outreach, drinking water protection as far as coral reefs for example."
