Vanuatu cancels ACP-EU conference because of Ebola

4:02 pm on 16 October 2014

Vanuatu says the ACP-EU conference to be held in Port Vila in late November has been cancelled because of concern over Ebola.

The prime minister, Joe Natuman, has told Radio Vanuatu that delegates should run no particular risk by visiting a small island developing country that lacks many facilities.

The gathering was to be attended by delegates from western Africa.

Mr Natuman says the cancellation was agreed to in the Council of Ministers and it is understood by the ACP-EU organising committee that another meeting in November will be held in Brazil.

This comes as the Speaker of the Vanuatu Parliament had been in Brussels to discuss the planning for the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly which had been scheduled to open on November the 26th.
