The administrative court in French Polynesia has ordered the removal of the mayor of Mahina over a formal irregularity during his election campaign.

Patrice Jamet has been declared ineligibile to hold office for 18 months for failing to have named a person in charge of the campaign funds.

There was no question of any other breach.

The court decision also applies to the town council, which is also to go.

The mayor, who was re-elected this year, is yet to say whether he will appeal against the ruling.
