PM called chicken for not answering question

6:04 am on 23 May 2012

Green Party co-leader Russel Norman called the Prime Minister a chicken as the Government faced strong criticism in Parliament on Tuesday over its economic management.

John Key was the subject of name calling after he transferred a question about the economy to Finance Minister Bill English.

Dr Norman had expected to ask Mr Key during Question Time about a statement the Prime Minister had made that he preferred the Treasury's advice to that of economic consultancy BERL about the Government's plan to partially sell state assets.

But the question was transferred to Mr English, prompting a series of points of order as Dr Norman sought to have the question answered by Mr Key.

Finally, Dr Norman asked Parliament to transfer the question back to Mr Key, but National MPs blocked his request.

That prompted the Green Party co-leader to twice call the Prime Minister "chicken".

Speaker of the House Lockwood Smith called for order several times and Russel Norman then lost his question entirely as Dr Smith moved on to the next question.
