Super review doesn't change Govt policy - minister

Commerce Minister Craig Foss says although he signed off on a Retirement Commission review into the affordability of superannuation, he has no influence over it.

The Commissioner's three-yearly review will focus on, among other issues, how retirement policies will affect future generations.

Mr Foss says the Commission is a body independent of Parliament and is free to review any relevant area it chooses.

He says the fact that he has signed off on the review does not cut across the stated belief of the Prime Minister that superannuation in its current form is affordable.

"(The commission has) come up with other suggestions and issues over the years and the policy position of the Government ... hasn't changed. There has been robust discussion, of course. "
