The National Party MP for Napier, Chris Tremain, has announced he will not be contesting the next election.
Mr Tremain is the Minister of Internal Affairs, Minister of Local Government and Associate Minister of Tourism.
He says he will devote his energy to both his electorate and his ministerial portfolios right through until the general election next year, when he will quit Parliament.
He says he has three children finishing high school and wants to devote more time to them before they leave home.
Mr Tremain entered Parliament in 2005 when he won the Napier seat from Labour.
He held the seat at the last election with a majority of 3701.
