Bill extending minimum wage for contractors drawn

A member's bill extending the minimum wage rate to contractors has been drawn from the ballot.

The bill, in the name of the Labour MP, David Parker, extends the provisions of the Minimum Wage Act to apply to payments made under contract, that are below the minimum wage.

The legislation states that some types of work, for example pamphlet deliveries, are not subject to any minimum wage requirements because the payments are made under a contract.
