The police in Rotorua are engaged in two search and rescue missions.
They say three day-trippers are lost in steep and dangerous terrain on the eastern side of Lake Rotoiti, but have been in mobile phone contact.
Two search and rescue teams are trying to locate the trio, who are not equipped for the stormy weather in the region.
A paramedic and search and rescue staff are also travelling to Ruatahuna, near Te Urewera National Park, where a man in his 50s collapsed Saturday afternoon.
