There was a house fire in the suburb of Henderson in West Auckland just before 3am on Tuesday.
The house in Coburg Street was extensively damaged.
Eight people were inside when the fire started, but all escaped unharmed.
Police say there are indications the blaze was deliberately lit and they are speaking to a man known to the people at the house.
