Dead hunter named n Fiordland

Updated at 5:04 am on 9 January 2013

Police have named a man who collapsed on a hunting trip in Fiordland.

They say he was Cameron Maclarty, 75, from Dunedin.

Mr Maclarty was hunting in thick forest in the Hollyford Valley when he collapsed at about five o'clock yesterday evening.

A teenage hunting companion ran back to Gunns Camp to raise the alarm and then returned to the scene with a camp staff member and a roading contractor.

A doctor went by helicopter from Te Anau but Mr Maclarty had died.

Police say his death has been referred to the coroner but there are no suspicious circumstances.

And Te Anau police say the young man did a very good job marking a trail out to the road and assisting the rescue effort.
