Norovirus hits more staff, patients in Dunedin

More staff and patients have fallen ill at Dunedin Hospital as a result of a suspected norovirus outbreak.

In the past week, 15 patients and seven staff in wards 8B and 8A have developed symptoms, including vomiting, diarrhoea, nausea and abdominal pain, consistent with norovirus.

Otago District Health Board's infection prevention manager, Jo Stoddart, says eight operations have had to be postponed because of the outbreak.

Ms Stoddart says no visitors or patients are being admitted to ward 8A until further notice.

Ward 8B has been emptied and thoroughly cleaned and is ready for new admissions when more staff become available, she says.
