A landslip which caused a house to be evacuated in Picton on Thursday night has been declared stable.
Nearly a full day of heavy rain caused the slip above a property in Milton Terrace, sending mud and water into the rear of the house.
The residents were evacuated as a precaution.
Marlborough District Council acting chief executive Mark Wheeler says it's too soon for the family to get back into their home.
"That house is still not considered fit for habitation, and so we're discussing that with the property owners and the tenants," he says. "Work will be needed to make the house habitable again".
Mr Wheeler says he doesn't expect any further problems as a result of the slip.
The sewage which was overflowing into the Waitohi Stream and Picton Marina on Thursday night, has now been cleared.
The heavy rain caused sewage to spill into the town's river system, prompting a warning to residents to take extra care, but Mr Wheeler says the rain stopped at about 9pm on Thursday.
"That's enabled river levels to drop and surface flooding to drop away," he says. "Sewage overflows are now not happening".
