Divers have found the body of a boy who went missing in the Whakatane River.
Lance Tikitere Fitzgerald, 13, was playing with friends at the Whakatane Bridge when he fell from a step about a metre above the water about 6pm on Wednesday.
He did not resurface and police on Thursday said his body has been found close to the bridge.
The body will be taken to shore by the Coastguard so his family can spend some time with him.
