Fire threatened Queenstown homes

5:29 pm on 13 March 2014

Fire crews have brought a large fire, which threatened one of Queenstown's most exclusive subdivisions, under control.

The blaze at Jacks Point was believed to have started by a lawn-mower.

Two helicopters, with monsoon buckets and ground fire crews took an hour on Thursday to bring the blaze under control.

Strong southerly winds fanned the flames, which came within about half a kilometre of the million dollar homes and the Jacks Point Golf Club.

The Department of Conservation will investigate how the fire started, although the burnt out remains of a ride-on lawn mower is sitting near where the fire started.
