A man is dead after a small dinghy with three people on board capsized just 10 metres from shore in Auckland's Panmure Basin today.

The police said they were setting off on a fishing expedition but, as they left the wharf, the boat tipped and all three men were thrown overboard.
One man made it back to shore by himself while another was rescued by members of the public.
Bystanders pulled the third man from the water but, despite attempts to revive him, he died at the scene.
