Church billboard targets anti-gay discrimination

An Auckland Anglican church known for its controversial billboards has put up a new sign targeting Anglican discrimination against homosexuals.

The billboard, at St Matthew-in-the-City, displays a meter that the church calls a "Gay-Dar", explaining that it's "as used by the Anglican Church to assess potential priests".

A priest associate at the church, Clay Nelson, says a homosexual man in a committed relationship was refused training as a priest, and he hopes the billboard will initiate discussion.

Rev Nelson wants people to sign an online petition calling for the Anglican Church to review its policies.

The indicator on the meter - in the form of a cross - was ripped off overnight on Friday night but Rev Nelson says he expects it will be replaced.
