Police say a fatal stabbing outside a birthday party in Pakuranga, Auckland, may have been caused by a fight over a girl.
Warren Rosillo, 18, from the Philippines, was stabbed in the head and chest during the fight on Friday night.
A man, 17, is due to appear in Manukau District Court on Monday charged with assault.
Police say more serious charges are likely.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Glossop told Morning Report that the party was well-run until the fight broke out.
He said Mr Rosillo and the accused knew each other before the party, but were not friends.
