Fewer people expected on waterfront for Cup final night

A Rugby World Cup official says the tournament's closing night will attract far fewer people to the Auckland waterfront, than the huge crowds that gathered for the opening.

Organisers were taken by surprise when an estimated 200,000 people gathered in central Auckland for the opening ceremony on Friday.

Auckland group chairwoman Rachael Dacy says they expect the closing ceremony on 23 October to be less popular, partly because there will be no fireworks displays.

Meanwhile, she says access to and from Queens Wharf is being managed each day during the tournament.
