Breakthrough at World Farming meeting in Japan

New Zealand farming representatives say a significant trade breakthrough has been achieved at a World Farming Organisations' meeting in Japan.

Federated Farmers president Bruce Wills says a trade policy has been agreed to which recognises the need to free up the trade of food to meet the needs of a growing global population.

The signing of the trade policy is significant because many of the 50 countries represented at the summit have highly protected borders.
