Australian winemakers look to quality over quantity

9:23 am on 12 November 2011

The Wine Industry Association of Australia says winemakers there are producing higher quality products in a bid to counter an oversupply of cheap wine.

New figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show an increase of 19,000 tonnes in the volume of grapes crushed over the past financial year.

However, the ABC reports wine production dropped by 6%, or 69 million litres, over the same period.

The association says the figures show that wine producers are addressing the oversupply of cheaper wine.
