The Government is being urged to subsidise wood framed homes to help save forestry jobs in New Zealand's smaller companies.
The Forest Industry Contractors Association says the initiative would keep rural communities working.
The association represents the majority of forest contracting companies, many of which are based in rural areas.
Chief executive John Stulen says a wood-framed home subsidy would be a win-win situation for the Government.
Mr Stulen says as well as keeping people working, wood is the most evironmentally friendly home-building option.
He says a similar scheme has proved successful in Australia where it has twice been used to stimulate the country's economy.
Wood Processors Association chief executive Peter Bodeker says the initiative would support forestry and building industries.
The Forest Industry Contractors Association will use the jobs summit on Friday to pitch the idea to the Government.
