A new website may help cut the cost of sending money home for Pacific Islanders living in New Zealand and Australia.
The Pacific Island Affairs Minister, Georgina Te Heu Heu, launched the website at the Otara market in South Auckland on Saturday.
It is part of a project begun by the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs under the Labour Government, which followed concerns among the Pacific community and research on transfer costs from the World Bank.
Ms Te Heu Heu says sending $200 to countries in the Pacific can attract charges of more than $25.
She says not all Pacific Islanders have computers in their homes and the next step is financial education.
The Tonga Advisory Council chairman, Melino Maka, says families without computers need be given pamphlets in their native language.
