An Aucklander has battled his way through bankruptcy to become the New Zealand Monopoly champion.

Geoff Christopher, 25, took the title at the national championships at Auckland on Saturday afternoon.

Using the battleship piece, Mr Christopher was bankrupted in the third round but had strong enough performances early on to take him through.

A small but noisy crowd turned out for the games, which were briefly interupted by a male streaker.

Mr Christopher has won a trip to Las Vegas where he'll compete in the World Monopoly Championships.
