A group of developers is accusing the Christchurch International Airport of double standards after plans to develop a holiday park nearby were rejected.

An independent commissioner turned down the application for resource consent from Russley Holiday Park Limited.

Managing director Bill Horncastle says the aiport company is now planning to build backpacker accomodation near the site proposed for the holiday park.

Mr Horncastle says the airport company of opposed Russley Holiday Park's plan in order to stop any competitive development.

Christchurch International Airport chief executive Jim Bolt says the airport's opposition was not the only reason the commissioner turned down the application.
