Cause of Haumoana deaths not yet known

The police in Hastings expect to have a clearer idea on Tuesday about what caused the deaths of a mother and her two young daughters in the coastal Hawke's Bay settlement of Haumoana.

The bodies of 31-year-old Melissa Dorward and her children, Keira and Ellah Watson, aged four and two, were found by a family member at their home on Sunday morning.

A team of detectives and ESR scientists have been examining the house.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave de Lange says it appears all three died inside the house and police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

He says the police have been speaking to friends and family members to build up a picture of events. No weapons were found at the Rockwood Place property, and none of the three had any obvious injuries.

Neighbours say the occupants of the house had only just finished moving in from a nearby flat.

The results of post mortems are expected at about midday on Tuesday.
