Two people died in separate car crashes on Saturday morning, taking the holiday road toll to eight.
One person was killed in the Tauranga suburb of Matapihi, where
two cars collided shortly after 5.30am on State Highway Two.
Two other people were taken to Tauranga hospital, one with serious injuries.
Earlier, another person died in a crash in Waiotahi, near Opotiki in Bay of Plenty.
A vehicle rolled at about 1.20am. Police say the driver, who was the sole occupant, was thrown from the vehicle.
The holiday period ends on Tuesday morning.
