Auckland's second busiest train station, Newmarket, has reopened after a multimillion-dollar refit.
Sixty-five million has been spent on upgrading rail and signaling connections around the station where southern and western lines meet before heading into the Britomart Transport Centre in central Auckland.
An additional $35 million has been spent on facilities at the station, including upgrading the platforms and bus connections.
An estimated 3500 people use the station each day, and the Auckland Regional Transport Authority estimates this number will quadruple over the next six years.
Train services will resume through Newmarket on Monday.
Newmarket Business Association chief executive Cameron Brewer says the upgrade will provide a significant economic boost for retailers in the area by drawing people out of the central city.
He is concerned, however, that trains could bypass the suburb during next year's Rugby World Cup, in an effort to get fans to and from Eden Park quickly.
