The Law Society has suspended a Napier lawyer, after this month announcing it was investigating irregularities in a trust account.

An interim order to suspend Gerald McKay has been made by the Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal.

Mr McKay is a partner in the firm, McKay Hill.

A society spokesperson, Jonathan Krebs, says its inspectors have been investigating the firm's trust account as quickly as possible, and have contacted all clients in the fund.

He says the affairs of McKay Hill are now being managed by an attorney appointed by the firm.
